RPG (Role Playing Game)
A role playing game is a game in which multiple individuals get together to tell a story through distribution of roles. Each person attending takes the part of one character in the story. There is another individual that moderates between players and the rest of the story. This person, called a Game Master (GM or alternately Dungeon Master (DM)) is also in charge of the elements of a story, namely: plot devices, setting, minor characters, pacing, etc.
Role Playing is a verbal game. It rarely involves the acting out of character actions. Resolution of actions in the story are most often done with some sort of rule system. Common rule systems include but are not limited to: Dungeons and Dragons, GURPS, Savage Worlds, and many, many others.
